Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on November 10 took a swipe at the state Congress leadership, remarking that the party’s activities resemble “child’s play” rather than serious politics.
His comments came while responding to a question from journalists during the ceremonial launch of a welfare scheme to provide subsidised masoor dal, sugar, and salt to NFSA beneficiaries.
When asked about the Congress’s claim that new supporters have been joining the party on the 10th of every month, Sarma dismissed it as a hollow exercise lacking substance.
“This is not joining. If someone joins a party, there must be a leader’s name attached to it. The Congress president here does not understand politics — this is mere child’s play,” he said, drawing laughter from the audience.

The Chief Minister also took the opportunity to contrast the Congress’s approach with what he described as the BJP government’s “commitment to governance and delivery.”
“While they are busy with publicity gimmicks, we are busy improving lives through welfare and development,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Sarma launched a state initiative aimed at providing subsidised essentials to families under the National Food Security Act. He said the scheme was part of the government’s broader mission to ensure food security and economic relief for low-income households.
The event, attended by senior officials and beneficiaries, saw the symbolic distribution of subsidised food items to mark the official rollout across the state.
