The nation is observing International Labour Day on May 1 to commemorate the importance of workers and appreciate the hardwork and essential services provided by the working class people in making the lives of the people comfortable.
Assam is too observing the day with workers taking a day off from their daily hectic routine. Amid this, a group of women at a Jogighopa hotel, unperturbed by the significance of the day, continue to work dedicatedly.
Deprived of government facilities, with no government schemes reaching their hands, this group of women hardly understand the meaning of Labour Day and thus continue to slog day-in and day-out, to feed their empty stomach.
There is no Labour Day celebration for these people. Yet, not letting the day end with no celebrations, a kind businessman identified as Wazed Ali felicitated the women workers with a Gamocha and forward them Labour Day greetings.
“Today is Labour Day and on this occasion, I felicitated the women workers here with a Gamocha. Will try to celebrate this special day every year. They work here day and night. Hence it is our duty to respect their work and commitment towards their responsibilities. Instead of considering them labourers, we should instead give them respect for the work they do for us”, said Wazed Ali while speaking to the media.
Elated at recognising their hardwork and being felicitated by the businessman, one of the woman worker said, “They are giving us respect for our work. Was never honoured like this before. Have worked in fields, worked hard in many establishments but was never respected for our work”.
