Tensions flared at Tularam Bafna Kamrup District Civil Hospital following the death of a newborn, with the grieving family accusing hospital staff of negligence. The distraught relatives staged a protest at the hospital, demanding justice while carrying the deceased infant.
The incident began last Friday, December 13 when Dolly Kakoti, a resident of Muktapur Bharali Supa, was admitted under the care of gynecologist Dr. Nikunja Deka. She delivered a baby boy on Saturday. However, due to critical health complications, the newborn was referred to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where he tragically passed away.
The family has alleged gross negligence on the part of Dr. Nikunja Deka and Dr. Pallav Lochan Sharma, holding them accountable for the infant’s death. Heated confrontations between the victim’s family and hospital staff further escalated the situation.
In response to the growing unrest, police personnel from North Guwahati’s Gauripur outpost were deployed to restore order and prevent the situation from spiraling further. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations.
