Assam: Tragic road accident claims four lives in Nilbagan, Hojai district

A tragic road accident on National Highway 37 in Nilbagan under Hojai District claimed the lives of four individuals in the early hours of Friday. 

The fatal crash occurred around 3:30 AM when a Swift Dzire vehicle (registration number AS-02-W-6439), travelling from Guwahati towards Lanka, met with a devastating mishap.

The deceased have been identified as Hari Chauhan (45), son of Kashinath Chauhan from Laskarpathar in Hojai; Mahesh Yadav, also known as Dukhi Yadav (46), son of Late Hari Kisun Yadav from Maj Basti, Forest Bazar, West Karbi Anglong; Nabi Singh (41), a resident of Hojai; and Rahul Dibragade (35), son of Bipul Dibragade, originally from Haflong Town in Dima Hasao and currently residing in Bordolong, Lanka.

According to initial reports, two of the victims died on the spot, while the remaining two succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment — one at the District Civil Hospital in Jurapukhri, Hojai, and the other at HAMM Hospital and Research Centre, Hojai. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examinations.

The sudden loss has sent shockwaves across the local communities, with many expressing grief over the untimely demise of the victims. Police officials have initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident. More details are awaited.
