Like other parts of the world, Margherita observed World Red Cross Day on Thursday with a series of meaningful programs, under the initiative of the Indian Red Cross Society’s Margherita Branch.
The event began with the hoisting of the Red Cross flag by Parikshit Thoudam, Co-District Commissioner and President of the Margherita Sub-District Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dinesh Pratap Singh Rathod, Margherita Co-District Police Officer and Vice-President of the Margherita Branch.
In observance of the day, an awareness meeting on heart disease was organised at the Margherita Development Block meeting hall. The session focused on causes, symptoms, treatment options, and preventive measures related to heart disease, a rising health concern globally.

The meeting was hosted by Pabitra Borgohain, Secretary of the Margherita Branch, and featured Dr. Mriganka Shekhar Chaliha, Head of the Cardiology Department at Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, as the chief guest.
Presided over by Dr. Manoj Gogoi, President of the Margherita Branch, the program was attended by several dignitaries including Dr. Atanu Kakoty, Principal of Margherita College; Dr. Sanat Kumar Dutta, Deputy Superintendent of Margherita FRU Hospital; Dr. Aparajita Phukan, Principal of Digboi Nursing College; and Sanjib Sharma, Block Elementary Education Officer of Margherita.
The program saw enthusiastic participation from community members, underlining the importance of collective awareness in promoting public health and humanitarian values.
