Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on October 10 launched a scathing attack on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, ridiculing him over his remarks on the distribution of mustard oil to ration card holders in the state and accusing the Congress of engaging in “low-level politics.”
Addressing a public gathering in Dibrugarh, Sarma said, “This morning, I was doing some research on what people in England eat, and I found out that they use sunflower oil. Gaurav Gogoi’s children live in England and are British citizens — that’s why he doesn’t know the value of mustard oil. If we talk about sunflower oil, he might understand.”
Taking a further dig at the Congress, the Chief Minister added, “The Congress, which once fought against the British, is now following in their footsteps.”
Shifting focus to the controversy surrounding the late singer Zubeen Garg’s death, Sarma accused the Congress of attempting to gain political mileage from the tragedy.

“If Congress truly wanted justice for Zubeen, they would have extended their support and suggestions. Instead, by dreaming of crossing the electoral river using Zubeen Garg’s name, Congress is living in a fool’s paradise,” he said.
The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid an escalating political tussle between the BJP and Congress over welfare schemes and the ongoing investigation into Zubeen Garg’s death.
While the opposition has accused the state government of mishandling the probe, Sarma reiterated that his government remains committed to ensuring justice and maintaining transparency throughout the investigation.
