Hundreds of fixed pay employees appointed under the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) staged a protest in front of the BTC Secretariat on Saturday, demanding the regularisation of their services and the immediate release of their long-pending salaries.
Around 500 employees from various departments across the five districts of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) joined the demonstration, expressing deep frustration over what they called years of government apathy. The employees, who were appointed in 2020, claimed that despite over five years of service, their jobs remain unregularized, and their monthly salaries are inconsistent or withheld.
The protest was triggered further by recent remarks from BTC Executive Member of the Forest Department, Ranjit Basumatary, who reportedly hinted at possible termination of their services. Protesters strongly condemned the statement, calling it unjust and demoralising.

“This is completely unjust. We have been serving faithfully for years, and now instead of being regularised, we are being threatened with termination,” said one of the protestors.
The agitating employees urged BTC Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro to issue an official statement clarifying their employment status and provide assurance about their job security. They also demanded the immediate release of all pending dues.
The protest highlights the growing discontent among contractual and fixed pay workers in the BTR, many of whom are now voicing fears of being abandoned without compensation or a clear path forward.
As of now, there has been no formal response from the BTC administration.
