Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing the 5th Deputy Commissioner’s conference in Tinsukia on May 16 stated that the DCs have to function as the chief secretary and guardian minister of the district.
Speaking about the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the state, CM Sarma stated that the state has been so far competing with other states with respect to GDP but has never it occurred to find out the GDO district wise.
“It is very important to know that a district should be aware about its economic development and in which direction is it heading to. There needs to be a major transformation of a DC’s role with respect to what their present role is. So far, a DC’s role was divided into two-three parts; one his own establishment where he has to work on his own and in his own establishment, next he is working as a supervisor acting as president for several district level committees, and third you are doing on your own initiative for the district. Now we want to make the DC the chief secretary, guardian minister or chief minister of the district”, said CM Sarma while further adding, “My first priority is to bring uniform development in all districts. Once we make an assessment, I want DCs from less performing ones to visit their high performing counterparts”.
Earlier, CM Sarma inaugurated the Convention Center following which the chief minister attended a meeting with the District Deputy Commissioners from different districts.
Speaking to the media, the CM said, "The state government have started the three-day DC conference wherein all the DC were divided into 5 groups headed by a minister."
Further, the chief minister stated that the conference started at 10 AM until 9 PM wherein the DCs prepared a presentation in front of the minister as well as an additional chief secretary.
