Eviction drive in Guwahati’s Birubari: 11 houses demolished so far

An eviction drive is currently underway in Birubari, Guwahati, where authorities are demolishing unauthorized structures. 

So far, 11 houses have been razed.

The administration had earlier served eviction notices to the residents, instructing them to vacate their homes. 

On Thursday, after issuing a final warning, a large police force, accompanied by bulldozers, arrived at the site early in the morning to carry out the demolition.

The eviction is taking place in the Trunk Factory area of Birubari. Nearly 25 days ago, affected families were formally notified about the drive. 

While legal proceedings are still ongoing, 45 out of the 69 displaced families have filed petitions in the High Court seeking relief.

Meanwhile, eviction continues for the remaining families who did not approach the court. Authorities have confirmed that the operation will proceed as per official directives.
