Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi voiced sharp criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence from the country during the ongoing Parliament session, alleging that the Prime Minister is avoiding critical discussions on pressing national concerns, including the integrity of the Election Commission.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Gogoi said, “The whole nation is worried about the impartiality of the Election Commission and its right to vote. At a time like this, the Prime Minister is out of the country. When the Parliament proceedings are going on and when we want discussions, he is on a foreign visit. This shows his sensitivity towards the matter.”
Gogoi accused the Prime Minister of showing disregard for democratic accountability and described the ongoing politicisation of the Election Commission as a matter of national concern.

“The whole country is seeing the politicisation of the Election Commission. But we saw all this in Assam 2.5 years ago. Delimitation was carried out throughout the state to benefit the BJP in Lok Sabha as well as the assembly elections,” he said.
The Congress MP from Assam’s Jorhat has been vocal about what he describes as systematic efforts to undermine electoral fairness, particularly pointing to the delimitation exercise in his home state.
According to him, the redrawing of constituency boundaries was engineered to give electoral advantage to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
His remarks come amid renewed opposition protests and walkouts in Parliament demanding transparency and accountability on issues ranging from electoral reforms to recent allegations concerning the autonomy of constitutional bodies.
There has been no official response from the Prime Minister’s Office on Gogoi’s remarks at the time of filing this report.
