As part of the Mera Resham Mera Abhiman (MRMA) campaign of the Central Silk Board, a day-long hands-on training programme on Muga silk reeling technology was organised today at Kaithapara, Boko, by the Regional Silk Technological Research Station (RSTRS), Guwahati.
The programme was coordinated by Shri Abhishek Tripathi, Scientist-B, RSTRS-CSTRI, Khanapara, who underscored the importance of adopting improved post-cocoon technologies for enhancing both productivity and quality in the Muga silk sector. He stressed that modern reeling practices would empower women reelers, improve yarn quality, and ensure better market value for Muga silk, thereby reinforcing Assam’s silk heritage.
Dr. S. Rahman, Scientist-D, Boko, along with Anup Kumar Barman, Senior Technical Assistant, Jiten Kakoti, Senior Technical Assistant, and Dilip Nath from the Department of Sericulture, Assam, were present and actively guided participants through the training.

Around 45 local reelers, women entrepreneurs, and youth took part, gaining practical exposure to improved Muga reeling machinery and techniques. A Central Silk Board official also recited a poem dedicated to Muga, adding a cultural touch to the programme and highlighting the vibrancy of the state’s golden silk.
Participants expressed satisfaction with the training, noting that the live demonstrations and hands-on practice would significantly help them enhance production efficiency. The event marked another milestone under the MRMA campaign in promoting sustainable sericulture practices and reviving Assam’s traditional silk industry.
