Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi, on his first visit to Tinsukia after assuming the party’s top post, spent the day engaging in a series of programmes.
Welcomed into the town with a motorcycle rally, Gogoi first paid floral tributes to the statue of Motok king Swargadeo Sarbananda Singha, lighting a ceremonial lamp and seeking blessings.
He then visited Maa Kali Temple and the local gurdwara to offer prayers for the days ahead, before attending a meeting at the Natya Mandir.
Addressing the gathering, Gogoi made significant remarks concerning the Moran, Motok, and six other indigenous communities of the state.

He also commented on the government’s recent campaign against the so-called ‘Miya’ population, stating that if the district administration was unable to carry out its duties effectively, the Chief Minister should take responsibility and resign.
“In the name of Bangladeshis, politics is being played. To date, there is no data on how many have actually been caught. Congress will never tolerate any harassment of ordinary Indian citizens under the pretext of targeting Bangladeshis,” Gogoi said.
