Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has issued a strong warning, claiming that if the BJP government loses power, "illegal Muslim encroachers will begin to settle wherever they choose without restraint."
Addressing a public event, the CM said that the BJP administration has played a crucial role in reversing demographic imbalances in parts of Assam.
“You would be astonished to learn the actual number of illegal immigrants already present,” Sarma stated. “Had the BJP not been in power, it would have been impossible to restore Assam’s demographic structure.”
He pointed to areas like Lumding and Barsala as examples where the government has succeeded in initiating what he described as “demographic restoration.”

However, he expressed concern over Goalpara town, stating that Hindus have become a minority there despite the town’s legacy as an ancient Hindu civilisation centre. Sarma alleged that 10,000–12,000 illegal Muslim immigrants from Baghbor have settled on Rakhyasini Hill, contributing to the shift.
The Chief Minister's remarks come amid rising political tensions and ongoing debates over illegal immigration and land encroachment in Assam. His comments have sparked fresh discussions around demographic changes and the role of political power in managing migration and settlement issues.
