Landslide cleanup in full swing on Jatinga-Lampur route; rail link to resume by June 30

A massive landslide on the Jatinga-Lampur section of the hill railway line has severely disrupted train services for several days. 

The landslide, which has already led to the cancellation of multiple long-distance trains, has prompted an emergency response from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).

Over 200 workers have been deployed on a war footing to clear the debris. Despite challenging weather conditions, efforts to restore the affected section are underway round-the-clock. 

On Thursday, June 26, Chetan Srivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway, visited the site to assess the situation.

Speaking to the media, GM Srivastava stated that restoration work is being expedited, keeping in mind public transportation needs. "We are making every effort to resume rail connectivity at the earliest," he said, expressing confidence that normal services will resume in the coming days...by June 29, the work should be completed, and we think the rail network will be linked by June 30".

Meanwhile, relentless rainfall has also triggered landslides across multiple locations on the Silchar-Saiphung National Highway, affecting vehicular movement. Key points such as Maruachhara and Tibong have been impacted, causing disruption in road connectivity between Silchar and Guwahati.

The landslides have affected transport links to neighbouring states like Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura, with goods-laden trucks stranded along the roads. Strong winds have further complicated the situation for drivers. While debris removal is ongoing, continued monsoon rains are posing serious challenges for officials attempting to restore normalcy.

With both road and rail links disrupted, public mobility and supply chains across the region remain under significant strain.
