Margherita witnessed a significant political shift on Monday as more than 100 active BJP members from Tekeri, under Inthem Gaon Panchayat of 83 No. Margherita Constituency, joined the Indian National Congress (INC).
The induction took place at Margherita Congress Bhawan under the leadership of Tara Prasad Dehingia, president of the Margherita Block Congress Committee, and Dimeswar Baruah, president of the Mandal Congress Committee.
Addressing the gathering, Dehingia attributed the mass defection to widespread dissatisfaction with the BJP’s governance. "Due to the BJP's misrule and authoritarian approach, both the general public and grassroots BJP workers are disillusioned. They now see the Congress as the best alternative," he stated.

One of the newly joined Congress members, previously a staunch BJP supporter, expressed frustration over alleged neglect in the Tekeri region. "We have faced continuous discrimination, which is why we decided to join the Congress," he said.
The defection highlights growing discontent among BJP cadres at the local level, signalling a potential shift in the region’s political landscape.
