A 24-member delegation from South Korea, comprising international researchers, scholars, and academics, is currently on a special visit to Assam to delve into the rich legacy of the state’s 200-year-old tea industry, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Wednesday.
Taking to social media platform X, CM Sarma shared details of the visit, stating:
“Building Bonds over Tea. A 24-member delegation from South Korea is on a visit to Assam to explore our rich 200-year-old tea heritage.”
As part of their itinerary, the delegation visited the iconic Meleng Tea Estate in Jorhat, one of Assam’s oldest and most prominent tea estates. According to the Chief Minister, the Korean team interacted with officials and workers and was taken through the entire tea-making process, from leaf plucking to processing.
A video shared by the Chief Minister captures moments from the visit, highlighting the delegation’s enthusiastic engagement with the estate’s operations and their fascination with Assam’s tea culture.

“The delegation explored the entire process—from leaf plucking to processing—and were fascinated by it!” CM Sarma noted.
The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for the international interest in Assam’s tea heritage, describing it as a moment of pride for the state.
“They are passionately striving to elevate Assam's exquisite tea tourism on the global stage. Our deepest gratitude to the global community for celebrating and honouring Assam's profound heritage and cultural legacy,” he said.
The visit is being seen as a step forward in promoting Assam’s tea tourism globally, building cultural and economic ties, and enhancing appreciation for one of India’s most historic industries.
