In a dramatic development, Tinsukia Police on Saturday launched a surprise raid at the residence of controversial mobile phone trader Majid Akhtar alias Miki and took him into custody. The raid was conducted early in the morning at his residence in Hijuguri.
According to police sources, two lethal weapons were recovered during the operation. The raid was carried out by a special team of Tinsukia Police.
Majid Akhtar has been at the centre of controversy for the past week following heated protests against him at the TDA Central Plaza Market. Local organisations and residents have accused him of illegally occupying government-allotted shops and conducting business activities without paying taxes.

The issue sparked outrage in the town, with various groups staging protests demanding action against him. Responding to the public outcry, police launched the raid as part of a crackdown on illegal activities.
Additional Superintendent of Police Mrinmoy Das confirmed the operation and said further investigation is underway.
