Gaurav Gogoi accuses BJP of using BPF, UPPL to hand over land to corporate giants

Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been exploiting its alliances in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) to transfer land resources to corporate giants. 

Speaking during his visit to Salbari in Baksa district on September 18, Gogoi claimed that the BJP first used the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) to hand over land to Patanjali, and then attempted to use its partner, the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), to facilitate land allotments to other corporate giants.

“The chief minister has treated BPF and UPPL as his personal property, using them as tools to serve corporate interests. First, it was Patanjali through the BPF, and now through the UPPL. This is how Assam’s resources are being bartered away,” Gogoi alleged.

He maintained that the Congress, in contrast, was committed to safeguarding the rights and resources of the local people. “We are not in politics to enrich ourselves. We are here to serve the poor and protect the people’s land. That is our pledge,” he said.

Gogoi further asserted that the BJP will not be able to form the government in the BTC this time, citing a growing wave of support for Congress. “People are becoming more conscious and aware. They have seen the BJP, BPF, and UPPL. Now, they will stand with us,” he added.

The Congress leader made the remarks after offering prayers at the Sannyasi Shiva Dham in Baksa, where he sought blessings for peace, progress, and development ahead of the BTC elections.
