Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on June 18 launched a fierce counterattack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, denouncing his recent statements related to cow slaughter and temple desecration as "poisonous" and offensive to Hindu beliefs.
Speaking to reporters, CM Sarma said, “This reflects Rahul Gandhi’s typical mindset. If meat were to be dumped by Hindus, it would be pork, not beef. Why would we use beef? These kinds of remarks expose his poisonous mindset and deep-rooted bias.”
The Chief Minister was reacting to remarks made by a Congress leader seen as a close aide of Rahul Gandhi, who allegedly hinted that cow parts found at a temple in Assam could have been placed there by Hindu groups themselves.

Countering this claim strongly, CM Sarma said, “If a cow’s head was found in a temple, where is the rest of the body? If BJP, RSS, or any Hindu group had done this — would they have eaten the rest? What exactly is Rahul Gandhi trying to imply? That Hindus butcher cows, leave the head in temples and eat the rest of the meat? These comments are inflammatory and unacceptable.”
The Chief Minister further emphasised, “All the accused in the case of throwing beef in the temple in Assam were caught from a particular community. But here, Rahul Gandhi’s puppet is alleging that Hindus cut off a cow's head, throw it in a temple, and eat the remaining meat. This is a vile distortion meant to provoke and divide.”
Sarma concluded that such statements are one of the main reasons "many Hindus express strong opposition to Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party," accusing the Opposition of repeatedly targeting Hindu faith under the guise of politics.
