Manipur: DGAR polo championship kicks off at Mapal Kangjeibung

The DGAR Men and Women Polo Championship 2025 was inaugurated at Mapal Kangjeibung, the world’s oldest polo ground, in a grand ceremony attended by dignitaries, polo enthusiasts, and an audience of 2,700.
Organized by Assam Rifles in collaboration with the All Manipur Polo Association (AMPA), the championship aims to promote Manipur’s polo heritage and support emerging talents.
The event, featuring 32 teams (27 men's and 5 women's), runs from January 20 to February 8, 2025. Major General Ravroop Singh, SM, Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), and other dignitaries, including Lt Gen (Retd.) Dr. Konsam Himalay Singh and AMPA President Dr. Konsam Saratchandra Singh graced the occasion.

Opening matches saw intense competition, with Black Watch Polo Club battling Lamaan Polo Club and Assam Rifles Women's Team facing the MPSC Polo Team. The Assam Rifles Pipe Band added a spectacular touch to the ceremony.
This championship celebrates skill and sportsmanship, reaffirming Assam Rifles' commitment to preserving Manipur’s rich polo tradition.
