Security forces carried out a major crackdown across Manipur’s valley districts in the early hours of July 15, recovering a large cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives in a significant boost to ongoing efforts to restore peace in the state.
Based on specific intelligence about concealed weapon stockpiles, joint teams comprising Manipur Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and Army/Assam Rifles launched simultaneous operations in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur districts.
A total of 86 weapons were seized, including 5 AK-series rifles, 3 INSAS rifles, 16 SLRs, 5 .303 rifles, 19 pistols, 2 carbines, 60 assorted rifles, and other warlike stores such as anti-riot guns, SBBL/bore action guns, JVPCs, bolt-action rifles, and a two-inch mortar.

The operations also led to the recovery of 974 rounds of live ammunition—comprising 7.62mm, 5.56mm, .303, 9mm, and .32mm rounds—along with 9 grenades, 6 HE mortar shells, 2 tube launchers, and 4 improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Additionally, 41 magazines and 6 wireless handsets were seized from various locations.
Manipur Police hailed the outcome as a major achievement in their sustained mission to dismantle illegal arms networks and reinforce law and order. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to securing the state and urged the public to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or the Central Control Room.
Senior officials continue to maintain close coordination with security stakeholders to ensure that such targeted operations proceed in a sustained and strategic manner to safeguard the lives and property of citizens.
