As the situation continues to remain volatile in Manipur, a couple from Delhi who reached Imphal on May 4, narrated the ordeal they faced while remaining stuck in the state.
With the state till burning and reports of deaths pouring in, a tourist couple from Delhi narrated horrifying details of vandalism, arson as they were shifted from hotels to hotels by security forces amid the tensed situation.
"We reached here in May 4 and found the situation here very worrisome after arriving from Guwahati. We were planning to visit the famous Loktak Lake and other places of tourist attraction, but the situation here has forced us to abandon our plans. We saw cars burning, mob stopping vehicles. But somehow we managed to escape after we were let off by a group who saw our identity cards. Manipur is a beautiful place. But lets see if we can return again one day to fulfill our dream of visiting the state", said SK Jain.
SK Jain and his wife had reached Guwahati and after visiting the Kamakhya Temple, they boarded a scheduled flight on May 4 and landed in Manipur's capital city Imphal.
Upon reaching Imphal, the security forces escorted the passengers to safe places as the roads were covered with burnt cars.
The state government of Manipur along with the security forces and army personnel are working in close coordination to maintain law and order and check on no untoward incident takes place while the evacuation takes place.
Meanwhile, several states in Northeast have already begun their evacuation operation as many students stranded in Manipur need to be brought back to their home states safely until the situation doesn't normalise.
