Samajwadi Party Member of Parliament (MP) Jaya Bachchan has sparked controversy with her remarks about the recent Kumbh Mela, raising concerns about the contamination of the river water and the lack of proper arrangements for the millions of devotees visiting the religious gathering.
Bachchan, known for her outspoken nature, questioned the state of the Kumbh’s water, claiming that the water in the river was "most contaminated" due to the disposal of dead bodies.
In a recent statement, she said, “Where is the water most contaminated right now? It's in Kumbh. Bodies (of those who died in the stampede) have been thrown in the river because of which the water has been contaminated."
Bachchan’s statement refers to the tragic stampede that occurred during the ongoing festival, in which several devotees lost their lives.

In addition to her remarks on water contamination, Bachchan also voiced her dissatisfaction with the way the Kumbh Mela was being managed. She pointed out that common people attending the event were not receiving any special treatment or adequate arrangements, despite the grand claims of record-breaking numbers of visitors.
She remarked, “The real issues are not being addressed. The common people visiting Kumbh are not receiving any special treatment, there is no arrangement for them. They are lying that crores of people have visited the place, how can such a large number of people gather in that place at any given point?”
Bachchan’s statements bring to light the ongoing challenges faced by organizers in managing an event of such immense scale, and her call for greater attention to the welfare of the attendees resonates with many who have long questioned the preparedness for such events.
