Former Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia has joined the panel for EURO 2024, marking his exit from electoral politics.
The 47-year-old announced his decision on June 25 following his defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Sikkim, where he contested from the Barfung seat.
"After the 2024 election results, I have had the realization that electoral politics is simply not for me. I am therefore quitting all forms of electoral politics with immediate effect," Bhutia stated in a released statement. He lost to Rikshal Dorjee Bhutia of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha by 4,346 votes, marking his sixth electoral defeat in the past decade.

Bhutia, who captivated fans with his skill and leadership on the football field, now shifts his focus to EURO 2024, where he joins the panel amidst high expectations from football enthusiasts globally.
