A 26-year-old man allegedly killed his 55-year-old mother and severed her head from her body with a 'dao' at Ratanpur village under Khowai District on Wednesday, July 17.
Speaking with reporters, Krishan Mohan Jhara, the elder son of the deceased mother identified as Parbati Jhara (55), said that after having dinner, his mother slept with his younger brother Haricharan Jhara (26) in a separate room on Tuesday night.
"After a hard day of work in the field, we sleep early. When we woke up in the morning, we started calling for my mother and brother. When we pushed the door, we found it was open and saw my mother’s head severed from her body. My younger brother was sitting with her body holding a dao. When we asked him what happened, he did not respond. We informed the Tripura police, who arrested my brother and recovered the body. There had been a heated altercation between my brother and mother," he told reporters.

Soon after the incident, Khowai Sub-divisional Police Officer Prasun Kanti Majumder, Officer In Charge of Khowai Police Station Subir Malakar, and others rushed to the spot.
Later, police said, "We received information that a murder occurred in Ratanpur village under Khowai District. We rushed to the spot with senior officials. We then heard that the deceased woman, Parbati Jhara, was killed by her younger son."
The police have arrested the son, recovered the body, and sent it to the hospital for a postmortem.
