The mutilated body of a wild sub-adult male elephant was discovered in the dense forest of Tui Rupa Chara in Pramod Nagar, under the jurisdiction of the Kalyanpur Forest Department in Khowai District of Tripura, after poachers has allegedly killed the wild jumbo.
Speaking on the matter, a Tripura Forest official, stated that during routine patrolling in the forest area and from local people they discovered the remains of the elephant on Sunday morning.
Following the discovery, senior forest officials, Police personnel and veterinarians rushed to the spot.
"We are suspecting that the elephant was shot dead and killed brutally, and its body was mutilated. The culprits reportedly severed parts of the elephant's head and hind leg, likely to collect its valuable tusks," said the official.
"We have recovered the remaining parts of the elephant and completed the post-mortem. The post mortem revealed that this is done by poacher," the official added.
