Unnao Rape-Survivor set on fire by 'Rapists' out on Bail

New Delhi, December 5, 2019:

In a shocking development, the 23-year-old Unnao rape-survivor was set ablaze on Thursday in Uttar Pradesh by a group of men when she was headed to a local court for hearing in the rape case.

The five men who had raped her in March this year, are suspected to have set her ablaze in an attempt to kill her.

The incident has been reported at Sindupur village. Reportedly, the rape accused along with his friends took the rape-survivor outside her village into the fields and doused her in petrol before setting her on fire.

The 23-year-old woman was gang-raped by the five men in March while the police could manage to arrest only three of them, and two others were still on the run. She had filed an FIR against the rape case on March 4.

The police rushed to the site of the incident and took her to a nearby government hospital, where she has been admitted in a critical condition.

She was later referred to a Lucknow hospital, following her critical condition. It has been reported that 90 per cent of the victim’s body has been burnt above her wrist.

Police have arrested all five men involved in the crime, including the main accused Shivam Trivedi.

According to reports, the woman was walking to the nearby railway station when the group hounded her and took her to a field outside the village and poured petrol on her.

When police reached the spot, they found her in a severely burnt condition while the accused had fled by then.

The dreadful incident came to light amidst several protests going on in the country against the rape of a Hyderabad veterinary doctor.
