Assam: Barama residents repair dilapidated road amidst Bihu festivities, express frustration against administration

Residents of Kadamtala in Barama, situated within Baksa district, have made a significant decision regarding the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections - they are opting to boycott voting. Their decision stems from grievances they feel regarding the equitable distribution of resources in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

The villagers assert that they have been subjected to neglect and deprivation under the guise of equal rights within the BTR. They highlight instances where funds designated for road repairs have allegedly been misappropriated, resulting in makeshift fixes rather than permanent solutions, without involving the government authorities.

Amidst the ongoing festivities of Bihu in the region, the community members of Greater Kadamtala undertook a unique initiative. They collected contributions, including denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 1000, to fund the repair of their dilapidated roads. This action underscores their frustration with the lack of official support for essential infrastructure projects.

Kadamtala village, tucked away in Barama, has long struggled with accessibility issues, lacking basic amenities such as proper roads and a functional water supply system. Despite repeated pleas to local authorities and successive governments, their concerns have remained unaddressed. The community's patience wore thin, prompting them to take matters into their own hands.

On the auspicious occasion of Bihu, the men and women of Kadamtala emerged with tools in hand, determined to mend their road themselves. This grassroots effort symbolizes both their resilience in the face of neglect and their resolve to confront the systemic challenges that have plagued their community for far too long.
