Assam: Horrific attack unfolds in Haflong, woman from Nepal assaulted on suspicion of child trafficking

In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Haflong, located in the Dima Hasao district of Assam a mob unleashed a savage attack on a women on suspicion of ch9ild trafficking. 

The victim, a Nepalese woman who had embarked on a visit to her relative's residence in Lower Haflong from Nepal, fell prey to the brutality of a frenzied group comprised of local men and women. Suspected of being involved in child trafficking, the innocent woman bore the brunt of inhuman aggression, leaving her critically wounded and traumatized.

The catalyst for this heinous assault was a simple act of kindness – the woman had tenderly offered food items to a child in the vicinity, arousing suspicion and triggering an onslaught of violence.

The timely intervention of law enforcement authorities spared the victim from further harm as the police swiftly intervened, rescuing her and facilitating her admission to Haflong Hospital for urgent medical attention. However, the valiant efforts of the police to uphold justice were met with resistance as the enraged mob turned their fury towards the officers, resulting in injuries sustained by several police personnel.

In the aftermath of the harrowing ordeal, one police officer has been transferred to The Guwahati Medical College for specialized treatment, underscoring the severity of the assault on both the innocent victim and the law enforcement officials.

In a bid to bring perpetrators to justice and restore order, authorities have taken decisive action by apprehending a total of seven individuals, including four women, implicated in the vicious attack. This egregious incident serves as a stark reminder of the perils of baseless suspicion and the imperative of safeguarding the rights and dignity of every individual within society.
