Assam: Lakhimpur Congress candidate pledges to address local issues including Subansiri Dam Project if voted to power

Congress candidate from Lakhimpur constituency, Assam Uday Shankar Hazarika has pledged to raise local issues including floods, erosion and Subansiri Dam Project if voted to power in the Lok Sabha elections. 

Speaking to the media post his selection as Congress candidate for Lakhimpur, Uday Shankar Hazarika said, "...After independence, we rarely received an MP in Lakhimpur who raises our issues at the Parliament...I will raise the issues of the places in the constituency". 

Hazarika has pledged to raise issues such as floods, erosion related to Subansiri Dam Project that has caused trouble for the people since its construction begun. 

"Our issues are floods, erosion, issues related to Subansiri Dam Project - people think it can collapse any day. We will demand that the Govt ensure protection to life and properties of the people besides the development works...Our tourism sector has a lot of potential...We would want jobs for the youth in our state itself...We will make all such efforts..." added Hazarika. 

Congress is fielding Uday Shankar Hazarika from the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency, the party confirmed in its fourth list of candidates released on Saturday.

The former BJP leader, Hazarika jumped ship in December, last year and will come up against Pradan Baruah of BJP in the elections.
