Assam: Rakibul Hussain's Congress fort crumbles in Samaguri after party members join BJP

As the Lok Sabha elections approach, significant political shifts are occurring in Samaguri, symbolized by the fort of Rakibul Hussain crumbling, with Congress supporters aligning themselves with either the BJP or the AIUDF across various areas.

In a notable event at Barmat in Samaguri, around 300 Congress workers and supporters defected to the BJP in a ceremony presided over by Suresh Bora, the BJP's anticipated candidate for the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat. It's noteworthy that MP Pradyut Bordoloi, the Congress candidate, has yet to visit the eastern region of Chamguri even once since his candidacy was declared.

The apparent disinterest of Suresh Bora, a former colleague turned rival, and Rakibul Hussain, the Congress MLA from the Samaguri assembly constituency, has left Pradyut Bordoloi, the Congress candidate, perplexed. This lack of engagement seems to have prompted minority communities to abandon the Congress in favor of the BJP.

Suresh Bora attributes the minority community's shift to the BJP to the perception of development initiatives spearheaded by Modi and Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The imminent Lok Sabha elections in Samaguri have amplified political activities in the area. A significant realignment in political loyalties has been marked by the shift of 300 Congress workers and supporters to the BJP.

The BJP's projected candidate for the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat, Suresh Bora, has solidified his influence in the region. Meanwhile, MP Pradyut Bordoloi's absence from Chamguri is raising questions about his campaign strategy and engagement with his constituents. The challenges for the Congress candidate are compounded by Congress MLA Rakibul Hussain's apparent disengagement.

A notable shift in the political landscape is indicated by the minority community's inclination towards the BJP, which could have potential implications for the election outcome. Suresh Bora attributes this shift in support to the development efforts perceived to be led by national and state-level BJP leaders.
