VARANASI: The Uttar Pradesh government has built its first toilet for transgenders in the Kamachha area here under the Smart City project to ensure participation of the community in cleanliness of the city.
The transgender toilet was inaugurated today by Mayor Mridula Jaiswal.
Jaiswal said that it is the first transgender toilet in the state, “We will build more such toilets, wherever they are required” he added.
Gaurang Rathi, the municipal commissioner of Varanasi said, "These toilets are not for everyone, it is for the third genders only. This was a long-awaited demand as they have faced a lot of challenges. "We are planning to build another four of them in the next two to three months."
In order to promote all kinds of inclusivity in the Prime Minister's constituency this has been done,he said.

Transgender toilets would significantly benefit the community, said Roshni.
"We appreciate the move taken by the local body administration as it is good for us. We had faced a lot of challenges but now we are happy."
"In every city, there should be more toilets like this," she added.
