Reliance Jio customers will be charged for voice calls made to other mobile operators, said the telecom major on Wednesday.
Jio’s move has come in a bid to boost competition with other telecom firms as the latter charge for voice calls made by their users to other mobile operators' networks.
It may be mentioned here that this will be the first time that Jio will be charging its customers for voice calls. Currently, the telecom company only charges for its data plans.

The company, in its recent statement, said that starting from October 9, voice calls for its customers will be charged at the prevailing Interconnect Usage Charge (IUC) rate of 6 paise per minute. This, reportedly, will be applied for recharges done through top-up vouchers till the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) decides for zero termination charge scheme.
However, the telecom giant has announced to compensate for the charges by offering free data of equal value.
Jio's 6 paise per minute will not be applicable on all Jio to Jio calls, Jio to landline calls and the ones made through WhatsApp or FaceTime.
