Arunachal: With impressive track record, NPP candidate faces tough competition from BJP, Congress ahead of polls

Karikho Kri, the incumbent MLA and candidate representing the National People's Party (NPP), has gained prominence for his remarkable track record of consecutive electoral victories, often challenging the ruling party candidates. His candidacy poses a significant challenge to Former Minister Dr. Mahesh Chai, who secured the BJP ticket after a thorough review process by the party's central leadership.

In the Tezu-Sunpura assembly constituency, located in the 44th constituency of the Lohit district in Arunachal Pradesh, Karikho Kri is affectionately known as "Bhaiya" due to his commitment to inclusive development and his compassionate approach towards serving all communities residing in Tezu. Often referred to as a "mini India," Tezu boasts a diverse population composition, with 67% hailing from other states and 23% comprising local indigenous communities.

Karikho Kri has previously secured electoral victories in 2004 and 2009, maintaining a position in the opposition. However, in 2014, he faced defeat against Dr. Mahesh Chai, the BJP candidate at the time, who had served as the state's Health Minister along with other portfolios. For the current elections, Karikho Kri is contesting under the banner of the NPP, competing against candidates from both the BJP and the Congress parties.

Despite facing formidable competition from rival candidates within his constituency, Karikho Kri continues to enjoy widespread support from citizens across various communities. Recognized as a leader who remains accessible and responsive to the needs of the people, he has earned admiration for his consistent presence and participation in diverse cultural and religious festivities. Whether it's the Chhath Puja of Bihari residents, Bhai Dooj celebrations of Nepalis, Diwali and Holi of Hindus, Eid festivities of Muslims, Durga Puja, Christmas, Tamaladu festival of Mishmis, or any other occasion, Karikho Kri's inclusive approach has garnered appreciation from all segments of society in the Tezu-Sunpura constituency.

Moreover, Karikho Kri has taken proactive steps towards infrastructural development, including the enhancement of facilities at the upcoming district hospital in Tezu, the establishment of schools and colleges, the improvement of stadiums, and the construction of cement concrete roads in Tezu and Sunpura towns. Additionally, his initiatives encompass the effective implementation of schemes such as the Jal Jeevan Mission and providing support to women during labor delivery, irrespective of their caste or religion.
