In a dramatic turn of events during the first phase of Lok Sabha polls in Assam, over 1,000 voters from Dhakuakhana and Dergaon have staged a complete boycott of the elections, alleging a stark absence of development initiatives in their regions.
Both Dhakuakhana and Dergaon witnessed eerily deserted polling booths as aggrieved voters took to the streets, brandishing banners and raising slogans against their constituency representatives. The absence of voters at the polling stations was conspicuous, with reports indicating a complete lack of participation in the electoral process.
The disenchantment of the voters in Dhakuakhana's Ghilaguri was palpable as they aired their grievances, highlighting the sorry state of transportation infrastructure in the area. Pointing fingers at the neglect of their leaders, the locals vehemently expressed their disillusionment, vowing not to cast their votes for any candidate.
A banner proclaiming their boycott adorned the Ghilaguri polling station, where a total of 538 eligible voters were expected to exercise their franchise. However, not a single voter graced the polling center, signaling a resolute stance against the perceived apathy of the political establishment.
The protests in both Dhakuakhana and Dergaon underscore the deep-rooted frustration among the electorate, who feel marginalized and overlooked in the developmental discourse. As the nation grapples with the electoral process, the specter of voter apathy looms large, casting a shadow over the democratic fervor in Assam.
