Manipur Lok Sabha Elections: Scuffle breaks out between police, Congress candidate in Keirao amidst Phase-1 voting

A confrontation broke out between a police officer and Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, the candidate representing the Congress party, at Kiyamgei Heibong Makhong High School in the Keirao assembly constituency on April 19.

The altercation arose amidst allegations directed at security forces for their purported failure to address a complaint lodged by one of Akoijam's agents. 

The incident reflects tensions regarding perceived lapses in security intervention, adding to the charged atmosphere surrounding the electoral process.

Amidst the altercation, reports of voters abstaining from participating in the electoral process in Manipur's Kangpokpi has also emerged with Kuki-Zo community abstaining from voting. 

The first phase of polling in Kangpokpi district, Manipur kicked off at 7:00 am with empty polling stations with complete zero turnout from the Kuki-Zo voters following the abstention call from the community's apex body.
