SHILLONG: The Department of Fisheries of Meghalaya today celebrated World Fisheries Day 2020 at the Directorate of Fisheries, Shillong. The theme of today's programme was ‘Social responsibility in the fisheries value chain’.
The programme was conducted in the presence of fish farmers from various districts, Superintendent of Fisheries and other officials of the department.
The Chief Guest of the occasion was S. C. Sadhu, Additional Secretary, Fisheries. I. Mawlong, Additional Secretary of Fisheries and A. L. Mawlong, Director of Fisheries -- were also present.

The book Fishes of Rymben-Borhir River written by Dr. Bashida Massar of St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, was also released.
There was also a presentation of Awards to Best performing Entrepreneurs in which Arwin Mawsor of West Khasi Hills won from Khasi Region and Roster K. Sangma of South West Garo Hills won from Garo Region. The award of Best performing District was also handed out and South West Garo Hills won the award.
A Workshop on Strategies and options for adaptation of nest practices for sustainable aquaculture was also held on this day.
