Major fire breaks out at Delhi's Ghazipur landfill site, smoke covers entire area, political blame game begins

A severe fire erupted at Ghazipur landfill in Delhi, with nine fire engines promptly dispatched to the scene. The emergency call was logged at approximately 5.20 pm on Sunday.

Footage of the incident displayed the fire partially consuming the colossal waste pile of the dumping yard. The fire department was alerted about the incident at around 5.22 pm, according to a fire services official quoted by news agency IANS.

In response, two additional fire engines were sent to the location. Rashtriya Lok Dal Chief Jayant Chaudhary, who was coincidentally passing by the area, recorded and shared a video of the blaze on a social media platform. As of reporting time, fire extinguishing efforts were ongoing and no casualties have been reported.

The BJP has criticised the Delhi government, attributing the fire to the criminal negligence of the MCD led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and accusing the Chief Minister of failing to fulfil his promise to clear the site.
