Tripura: Woman held for alleged involvement in human trafficking across Bangladesh-India border

Amidst the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) have arrested a woman from Matinagar, a bordering village in the West District, for her alleged involvement in human trafficking cases.

Speaking with reporters, Officer-In-Charge of the Government Railway Police Station, Tapas Das, stated that based on a case registered with the Government Railway Police on March 23, they have arrested six Bangladeshi nationals.

"Through our investigation, we have determined that one Parul Akhter from Matinagar was involved in this case, aiding these six Bangladeshi nationals in entering India illegally. We initiated a search for her, and she had been evading arrest. Yesterday, we received a tip-off indicating that she had returned home. Subsequently, we, along with the Tripura Police and BSF, rushed to the spot and set up an ambush in the early hours of Tuesday, detaining her. She facilitated the illegal crossing of Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas across the international border, providing them with shelter and food. Her residence is in close proximity to the fencing. We have commenced interrogation," he added.

In the recent past, the GRP, along with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), have detained over 50 Bangladeshi nationals at Agartala Railway Station who were attempting to enter India illegally, with destinations including Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Gujarat, and elsewhere in search of work.
