Assam's acclaimed film-maker Rima Das' enduring popularity continues to keep Assam in the national consciousness. Yesterday, host Amitabh Bachchan asked a contestant a question about her tour de force, Village Rockstars, during the wildly popular game show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati'.
The host, Amitabh Bachchan, asked a contestant the following question, "In which language was the National Award winning film 'Village Rockstars' made?". The options were as follows: Bengali, Assamese, Marathi, and Hindi. An elated Rima Das herself shared a screengrab from the show, posting it on Facebook.
A question about Rima being asked in India's most popular reality show proves that Rima's success is not fleeting and through her masterpiece, 'Village Rockstars', shot on a paltry budget in the rural setting of Chaygaon, has etched her name onto the history books of India.
Although Rima is best known for 'Village Rockstars', a film about the musical aspirations of a village girl, her sophomore film, 'Bulbul Can Sing', a film that explores more adult themes, also earned rave reviews. 'Bulbul...' has also gone on to win many national and international awards. The film was also screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. The film also had a successful theatrical run in cinemas across the country.
