GUWAHATI: Assam police have detained a person in connection with the murder of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) booth president of Buridihing Gaong Panchayat in Tinsukia.

&nbsp;

Joy Chandra Gogoi (46), a man from the same village, has been arrested by the police in connection with the murder amid ongoing investigations to nab the culprit.

&nbsp;

Efforts are being made to recover the dagger used to commit the murder, police said.

BJP leader Devananda Gogoi was reportedly stabbed to death while was gardening in his house.

He was immediately rushed to a government hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

“Strongly condemn the brutal murder of @BJP4Assam karyakarta, Deba Gogoi, Booth President under Margherita LAC. My deepest condolences to his family &amp; friends. Such acts of violence will not be tolerated &amp; I assure that law will take its course to punish the guilty,” CM Sonowal wrote on Twitter.

Condoling the demise of the party member, state finance minister also took to Twitter and wrote, “Shocked &amp; anguished to hear killing of Debananda Gogoi Ji, @BJP4India booth president of Buridihing Gaon Panchayat in Tinsukia. I condemn this act of violence."

Police detain one in connection with murder of BJP leader in Margherita

An State Bank of India (SBI) staffer was shot dead and Rs 1.15 crore was looted in Churachandpur district of Manipur. The deceased Arambam Ranjan Meitei aged 37 years was on his to load cash in ATMs when the incident took place at round 11 am. Meitei was an employee of the SBI, Churachandpur main branch. The incident happened just out the bank.The miscreants are shot Meitei from a very close range and fled the scene with the looted money. Police arrest five poachers, illegal goods recovered

Four person were arrested from Dibrugarh Airport after they were found carrying carrying a huge amount of money. The persons have been arrested while they were about to board a flight to Delhi. Rupees 84 lakh were recovered from them.The arrested person have been identified as Jalaluddin Talukdar, Sanjay Kumar Sharma, Sajan Singh and Ram Avatar Sharma. Nalbari Police Arrests Another Candidate in connection with SI exam

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Assam on Sunday conducted a raid at a business establishment in Guwahati owned by Saroj Sarma, an accused in SI exam scam. The raid was conducted at Trishna Global Private Limited at Hriday Ranjan Path in the Zoo Road locality of the city.In the raid, the CID sleuths seized a Duster car which was used by Saroj Sarma. The CID team also brought Saroj Sarma with them during the raid. CID conducts raid at Devraj Das’s house in connection with SI exam scam

Assam Police has arrested another accused in the SI exam scam on Sunday. The accused Jintu Nath was apprehended on Sunday morning.Nath is the vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Bezera Circle in Jalukbari constituency.Fugitive Jintu Nath has been arrested by Chaiduar police from Sonitpur’s Jamguri area and will be brought to Guwahati later today.On Saturday, a huge amount of cash was recovered from a house in Abhayapuri in Bongaigaon district. Rubul Hazarikawas associated with Akshay Telecommunication of Bongaigaon, the company which got the sub-contract to conduct the written exam.Earlier, former Assam Police DIG PK Dutta, the main accused in the SI recruitment scam, was arrested in Nepal. Dutta who is said to be the main mastermind in the leakage of the question paper was on the run. After huge public outcry, Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal ordered a swift investigation as a result of which PK Dutta was finally reported arrested in Nepal.The Assam Police investigating team besides raiding Dutta’s residence at Rupkonwar Path in Hengrabari also raided his many hotels and properties in Guwahati and Dibrugarh.Another main accused former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Diban Deka surrendered before the Police and is being interrogated at the Assam Police SB Branch in Guwahati. The Assam Police has arrested a youth for giving death threat to Assam health and finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday night. The man has been identified as one Aktar Ali of Hajo. Youth held for giving death threat to Himanta Biswa Sarma

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Assam Police carried a search operation in accused Devraj Das’s house in Barpeta in connection with the SI exam scam.The CID team detained Devraj Das’s wife Tulika Barman and interrogated her. During her interrogation, the CID team recovered cash worth Rupees 46 lakhs and 77 thousand from Tulika Barman’s locker of Bank of Baroda. Two illegal coal laden trucks seized in Margherita, three arrested

GUWAHATI: Continuing with its crackdown on drug smugglers, Tripura Police has arrested a woman for being involved in smuggling of narcotics.The woman, identified as Uma Malakar, was arrested from her residence in West Champamura late on Tuesday night.The accused was arrested based on the information provided by drug kingpin Nahid Miah, who was arrested earlier.A huge quantity of drugs and cash were recovered from the residence of Malakar. The recovery includes 120 gram of brown sugar, 200 brown sugar stuffed vials and 1,000 empty vials besides Rs 1.84 lakh in cash.It needs mention that one of the biggest suppliers of drugs in Agartala, Nahid Miah was arrested a couple of days ago from the city. Assam Police announces Rs. 1 lakh reward on absconding Ex-DIG PK Dutta and BJP leader Diban Deka

The Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia has said that the anomalies in job and irrigation department by the state government has come to light. Saikia also said that several Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and ministers are running job syndicates. There are brokers of the BJP leaders who have been running these syndicates and one can easily get a job by paying money to these brokers. Saikia said that the SI recruitment exam scam is an standing example of the anomalies. Saikia further said that it has come to light from investigation that several BJP leaders and police officials are involved in the SI exam paper leak scam. Job scam in all departments by state government: Debabrata Saikia

In a freak and bizarre incident, one person got seriously injured in a firing incident in Guwahati on Friday noon. The incident took place at Ashirwaad incident at Chandmari area of Guwahati when a birthday party was going on.One Mintoo Hazarika was seriously injured when one Kiran Bania fire at the residence of Damodar Deka. The injured have been immediately shifted to the GNRC hospital in a critical condition.  According to reports, Damodar Deka is an advocate by profession.
