<p>The blaze erupted in the temporary huts of railway line workers, completely gutting several structures.</p>

<p>Due to the fire, the Ledo–Guwahati Intercity Express was halted at Margherita station as a precautionary measure.</p>

<p>Fortunately, all railway workers managed to escape unharmed.</p>

<p>Margherita Police and fire service personnel responded quickly and brought the flames under control.<br />
The exact cause of the fire is still unknown.</p>

<p>Lal Babu Singh, the founder, headmaster of Adarsha Vidya Mandir High School in Ledo, under Tinsukia district of Assam retired without receiving any salary after dedicating 36 years of his life to teaching. Despite his long service, the school where Singh worked did not receive recognition, leaving him unpaid upon his retirement on May 31.</p>

<p>IndiaToday NE visited Lal Babu Singh's residence in Ledo, part of the Margherita sub-division in Tinsukia district, to understand the circumstances surrounding his retirement without compensation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Singh expressed his disappointment, revealing that although the Lower Primary section of the school was provincialized, the Middle English (ME) and High School sections remained non-provincialized.</p>

<p>Recalling his appointment as the founder headmaster on January 2, 1988, Singh highlighted his efforts to seek provincialization for the school.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Despite repeated appeals to the Education Minister and current Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Singh stated that assurances of provincialization were not fulfilled. Singh lamented the lack of action, citing promises that "not a single school of Assam shall remain non-provincialized," which have not been kept.</p>

<p>"The school was established in 1988 and I have been the headmaster since then. The school was promised to be turned into a government school however in the last two elections the candidates promised to take this school under the Assam government. Elections have passed, twice but none did care to visit the school or uplift us after the elections were over", said Singh.</p>

<p>Singh drew attention to the broader issue in the Margherita sub-division, where 15 high schools and 30 LP and ME schools have also not been provincialized. This has resulted in severe economic hardships for many teachers, forcing some to sell vegetables or work as private security guards, while others have sought employment in cities like Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai.</p>

<p>Despite these challenges and the plea from teachers and educational advocates, Singh criticized the BJP-led government in Assam for not prioritizing the provincialization of schools.</p>

<p>According to sources, the bullet accidentally exploded from the security guard's gun and caused panic among the people on the spot.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It needs mention here that no one was injured as the security guard was inside the car when the bullet was accidentally fired from his service weapon.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Tinsukia police rushed to the spot as soon as the incident was reported. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.</p>

<p>Acting on a tip-off, Doomdooma&nbsp;Police on Wednesday seized huge cash of drugs (38.48 grams) along with arms, and vehicles and arrested one person.</p>

<p>The arrested person is identified as Kimon Jyoti Hazarika, a resident of the Doomdooma town, Tinsukia district.</p>

<p>One Royal Enfield bike and two cars were seized from his possession.</p>

<p>The Doomdooma Police have initiated a search operation under the leadership of Officer Dibyajyoti Dutta after receiving inputs from one suspected drug peddler (Saheb Alom) who was also detained in the Baghjan area with the seizure of drugs.</p>

<p>According to the sources, Kimon Jyoti Hazarika earlier worked as a home guard and he is in the drugs business for a very long time.</p>

<p>“We detained a drug peddler in the early morning of Wednesday. And Saheb Alom took us to the residence of Kinon Jyoti Hazarika and we seized arms and drugs along with stolen bikes and vehicles”, a police officer stated.</p>

<p>Two drug peddlers were nabbed and significant quantities of contraband substances including heroin and cash were seized by a team of Assam Police in Tinsukia during a raid on Friday.</p>

<p>Based on specific information, a raid was conducted at Hotel Metro, AT Road, Tinsukia yesterday late night between 12.30 to 1.30 AM and apprehended two drug peddlers namely Keshab Gogoi (42), son of Lt Lileswar Gogoi of No 2 Baghmora, under the Joypur Police station.</p>

<p>The other drug peddler has been identified as Palash Bora (32), a resident of Namrup New Colony under Namrup Police Station.</p>

<p>Police recovered 5.5 grams of suspected Heroin, cash Rs 95,000; 10 numbers of 1ml syringe, one Avenger Motorcycle AS06AF1799, three mobile, and a pocket diary from their possession.</p>

<p>The raid was led by Tinsukia T.S.I &nbsp;Bhaskar Jyoti Barua. The accused have been arrested and sent to police custody.</p>

<p>It is worthy to note that the present BJP-led government has been taking several steps on the national as well as international front to contain drug trafficking in the country. With the combined efforts of the government as well as the security agencies of the country, lot many drug traffickers and drug peddlers have been arrested with the seizure of illicit drugs, and psychotropic substances worth crores.</p>

<p>As per the latest data published by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the combined share of the entire Northeast States in the seizure of illicit drugs total 137,923.568 kgs for the year 2018,&nbsp;83,612.478 kgs for the year 2019, and 80,196.562 kgs in the year 2020.</p>

<p>A 42-year-old Buddhist monk has been detained by police on suspicion of using fake documents to get Indian citizenship and residing at the Buddha Mandir in Tinsukia Town, Assam.</p>

<p>According to his documents, which proved to be bogus, the accused, Ratonshree Bikhu alias Rahul Barua, is allegedly a resident of the Dhalai district in Tripura.</p>

<p>Talking exclusively to IndiaTodayNE, Tinsukia Office-in-Charge Pragjyoti Buragohain stated that the accused has identified himself as a Bangladeshi national but the police cannot give confirmation on the person’s statement as the documents are still under verification.</p>

<p>“We have detained the accused this morning on the grounds of the Election Commission's report, which indicates that the voter card the accused submitted is a fake one”, the OC added.</p>

<p>The district administration of Tinsukia, Assam, has clamped Section 144 of CrPC which bans ‘unlawful assemblies and gatherings of five and more people, and shouting provocative slogans throughout the district.’</p>

<p>The order, issued with an aim to maintain law and order in the district, also prohibits taking out any procession, dharna, or rally without permission of the authorities.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Deputy commissioner-cum-district magistrate, Narsing Pawar, is of the view that “there may be possible misuse of pillion riding on bikes and other two-wheelers by anti-social elements/ insurgent groups and outfits and their supporters with a view to commit subversive activities.”</p>

<p>“Assembly of five or more persons without prior permission from the competent authority/District Holding of meeting/gathering in any public place without prior permission from the competent Administration authority/District Administration”, the order added.</p>

<p>To prevent Covid-19 as well as to maintain social distancing in society as per government guidelines, attending public places without masks is banned, the order further said.</p>

<p>“Affixing posters/banners of any kind in any wall/ boundary wall of Govt. /semi Govt/Private resident etc. and writing obscene/ incriminatory words and slogans thereon. Use of loud speakers, P.A. Systems mike etc. in any public premises so as to cause noise pollution”, the order further added.</p>

<p>Carrying of any lethal weapons, firearms, lathi or danda ote during any rally, march and procession etc in the district except for police and armed forces is also banned throughout the district.</p>

<p>“Use of Torch Light such as Mashal with Fire using inflammable substances etc. during any rally and procession etc in the district. Pillion riding on any two-wheelers, bikes, scooters etc. throughout the District of Tinsukia,” further read the communique.</p>

<p>However, the order exempts women, school-going children, security personnel on duty, Govt. servants, Advocates, old persons above sixty years of age, Journalists/ Health Department professionals, and specially-abled persons with proper identity cards from appropriate authority are exempted from the purview of this order.</p>

<p>Forcible collection or donation for any purpose from the vehicles plying on road throughout the district of Tinsukia are also banned.</p>

<p>Anyone who disobeys the instructions might face charges under section 188 of the IPC, the DC warned.</p>

<p>In a bizarre incident reported from Assam's Tinsukia district, a minor boy was tied to a tree, assaulted, and later his ears were chopped off by a man with whose daughter he was in a love relationship.</p>

<p>Upon learning about the love affair, the accused got enraged and set out to teach the boy a lesson. The accused caught the minor boy and his minor daughter in his residence and immediately tied him to a tree.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The villagers rescued the boy, who was found bleeding heavily and rushed him to the hospital. The boy's mother filed a complaint against the accused who was then later arrested by the police.</p>

<p>According to reports, the boy was found hiding under a bed in his daughter's bedroom. Later, Gogoi called the police to report that he had caught the boy illegally entering his property and suspected him of stealing.</p>

<p>Bordumsa police have filed a complaint under Section 326 of the Indian Penal Code for "voluntarily causing severe harm with dangerous weapons" and are conducting an investigation.</p>

<p>As soon as the news of the incident was received, the Bordumsa police swung into action and arrested the man (the girl's father) who committed the brutal act.</p>

<p class="text-align-justify">Days after the Indian army gunned down a United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) cadre, the two forces locked horns again in the same district – Tinsukia of Assam, said reports.</p>

<p class="text-align-justify">The operation was launched by a team of Tinsukia Police headed by DIG Jitmal Doley after they gained intel that a group of cadres was hiding in Kujupathar village at Tinsukia’s Pengeri.</p>

<p class="text-align-justify">It is further suspected that the ULFA-I group was led by senior ULFA(I) leader Rupom Asom.</p>

<p class="text-align-justify">Additional security forces have reportedly rushed to the spot and the entire area has now been cordoned off.<br />
This incident has come to light days after security forces gunned down ULFA (I) cadres Gyan Asom.</p>

<p class="text-align-justify">At least two-three members of the group were reportedly injured in the exchange of fire and large number of arms and ammunition have been recovered. Our search operation is still underway.</p>

<p class="text-align-justify">According to sources, the security forces received information regarding the presence of six ULFA-I cadres led by one Rupon Asom taking shelter at Dapather Majgaon under the Kakopathar police station.</p>

<p class="text-align-justify">Police said that there was a group of six militants holed up in a house.</p>

<p class="text-align-justify">After receiving the input, a joint team of 14 Assam Regiment and police launched an operation during which they were attacked with gunfire and two grenades from the militants.</p>

<p class="text-align-justify">After the incident, security forces have launched a combing operation to catch the militants who managed to flee.<br />
It needs mention here that the ULFA(I) has been on a unilateral ceasefire since May 2021.</p>
